Even though the Incas had an education system, it was not a traditional one. It was only reserved for the wealthy. They relied heavily on oral teachings and memorizing. Children were taught stories and poems relating to Inca history and family heritage. They did not have any type of established writing system. They were taught to use a quipu which consisted of counting with knotted cords. Boys were taught religion, history and language. Girls learned how to weave and cook. The standard education lasted four years for both boys and girls.
