Ancient Egyptian Food

What we know today about ancient Egyptian food comes mainly from the drawings that depict the food feast that would occur in the afterlife. These drawings have been found on the inside of Egyptian tombs. Egyptians ate fish, onions, fruit, bread and beer. Some wealthier Egyptians also ate meat and poultry. They ate their food on dishes and with their fingers. Fruit was saved for dessert and consisted mainly of figs and dates. The Egyptians ate dairy products such as milk and eggs. The ancient Egyptians often preserved their food by drying and salting.
