Greek Music

Music in ancient Greece was quite popular in daily life. It was used as a way to honor the gods and played at ceremonies, festivals, parties and theatres. Music was commonly intertwined with other arts such as dancing and poetry. Both men and women played musical instruments. Paintings on ancient vases depicted the Greeks playing pipes, drums and lyres. The ancient Greeks also sang. Greek music was taught at home and in the schools on a regular basis.
