Make Time for Reading
by Mary Crowther
Do you ever wish that you had more time for reading? Is reading one of those favorite things that you never seem to fit into your schedule?
Whether your passion is a novel, magazine or the newspaper, these tips will help you make time for reading.
1. Carry your reading material with you. There are so many instances in the course of the day where we find ourselves waiting for something. This could be a doctor appointment, standing in line or waiting for our lunch to be served. If you have your reading material with you, this time which would usually be wasted can be well spent reading.
2. Read on your way to work or school. Obviously this is not advisable if you are driving yourself, but those who take the bus, subway or taxi can enjoy a good book along the way.
3. Borrow books on CD from your local library. This is a great choice for those who do drive every day. You'll find just about any type of book on CD these days, from novels to self help books. Think of how much knowledge you can gain while driving your car.
4. Start or join a book club. This could be a very motivating factor for how much time is set aside for reading. If you know there is a deadline for finishing your book, you are much more likely to take the time needed.
5. Read to others. Is there a special child in your life that enjoys books? Or how about a senior citizen that can no longer see the pages? When you read to others, not only are you enjoying reading, but you are also sharing that enjoyment.
6. Give up something else. Are you in the habit of watching television for several hours each night even though there's nothing good to watch? Be aware of how your time is spent. Take one of those TV hours and set it aside for reading.
7. Go somewhere else to read. Plan a trip to the library or another quiet place once a week to read. Sometimes all it takes is to have a special place for reading and time set aside for it.
8. Find new reading material. Did you start a novel that you never seem to get back to reading? It may be that the material is just not that interesting. Put that aside and move on to something that you will enjoy more.
Congratulations, in no time you will be on your way to regular reading enjoyment and always remember to make time for reading!
