The term Seven Wonders of the World was first used by the ancient Romans and Greeks. This list included the greatest architectural and sculptural wonders of their time and is said to be the original list. Many other lists have been written over the years with the most popular being The Seven Wonders of the Natural World and The Seven Wonders of the Modern World.


The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

The Great Pyramid of Giza

A temple in Asia Minor for the Greek goddess of hunting and wild nature.

Tomb constructed for King Maussollos, Persian satrap of Caria.

The Colossus of Rhodes
A colossus of Helios the sun-god, erected by the Greeks.
280 BC

The Lighthouse of Alexandria
A lighthouse built by the Ptolemies on the island of Pharos.
