Viking Ships

Viking ships were well built and uniquely designed. They were built of Scandinavian oak and bound by iron rivets. Each Viking ship had an unusual design but all ships had a dragon or serpent symbol intended to scare away the evils of the sea. This is why Viking ships are sometimes called dragon ships. The ships were wide in the middle, narrow at the ends and different sizes depending on the purpose of the ship. Viking ships were used to carry cargo, as war ships and fishing vessels.
